UGA withdraws complain against Chevron staff, says petition was done out of anger

Ugborodo Graduates Association, UGA, has written apology letter to the Chairman and Managing Director, CMD of the Nigeria/Mid-Africa (NMA) business unit of Chevron International Exploration and Production, saying the earlier petition against a staff of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Henry Okoro, “was done out of anger.”

In the apology letter dated August 9, UGA, acknowledged: “As intellectual of your host community, Ugborodo, we usually ensure to investigate issues even when acted by impulse. However, our findings point to the fact that, the statement was not true.”

The letter, which was signed by the President and Secretary of UGA, Oritsetsegbemi Monday, C and David Ejeh Oritsegbemi, respectively, noted in parts: “We sometimes act by impulse, because Ugborodo graduates had been deceived for so long, marginalized, neglected in the scheme of empowerment and employment to the extent that majority of us are jobless as host community indigenes, while foreigners dominant Chevron yard Escravos working. Our graduates have become hopeless, not sure of what tomorrow will bring for them and their children.

“Acting by impulse has become one way to act very fast, to draw the attention of our oppressors to our cry as host community.

“We also regret our actions, for the use of unpleasant words in relating Mr. Henry Okoro with one Bliss Eghaghara in our complaint. We apologize to the fact that, what we did, was done out of anger; because a jobless and hungry man is an angry man. We have no knowledge of such thing; hence, whatever we've done by mistake or error, we are undoing them for the record sake.

“We make our submission to withdraw our complaint against Mr. Henry Okoro without fear or favour, but on the perspective of fairness, truth and the fear of God.”
