The Ovie of Udu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Barr. Emmanuel Delekpe Ohworhu I, has pledged to uphold the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict 1979 of Bendel State, as applicable to Delta State, in relation to succession to the throne of Udu Kingdom, just as the Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for resolving the controversy of the Udu Traditional Council.

 

Our Principal Correspondent, reports that the Udu Monarch made the commitment Wednesday August 14 at  Otor Udu, the Traditional Headquarters of Udu Kingdom, during an enlarged meeting attended by the Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, the Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, representatives of the 7-Ruling House of Udu Kingdom and the 32 Communities that make up Udu local Government Area.

The 7-Ruling House of Udu Kingdom are; Owurhu, Ulohor, Adadja, Okporua, Owrode, Ovwian and Orhugworun.

The Otota (Spokesman) of Udu Kingdom, Chief Samuel Odibo, who spoke on the mandate of the Udu Monarch, hailed Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for resolving the succession controversy, which reportedly affected the President-General leadership for over two years, appealing to sons and daughters of Udu to forget the past and live together.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, announced the dissolution of the factional executives led by two President-Generals, PGs, Chief Moses Uparan and Chief Austin Emaduku.

The Governor’s Aide, called for nomination of one person each from the 7-Ruling House of Udu Kingdom, one nominee from the Udu Monarch and one from Delta State government, to make up a 9-Member Caretaker Committee that would be inaugurated by the Delta State Government, to pilot the affairs of the entire Udu communities for the next three months.

Whilst noting that none of the dissolved factional PGs should be among the proposed 9-member Caretaker Committee, Chief Uzor, charged Udu people to sustain the peace in the area and commended them for voting massively for the PDP in the last local government election held in the state.

Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for resolving the controversy of the Udu Traditional Council, as well as the Union of Udu Communities, UUC electoral process, as enshrined in the UUC constitution.

The Udu Local Government Boss, called on people of Udu Local Government to sustain their support for Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda, saying his administration will execute quality development projects in Udu Local Government Area.

Rita Ikoko, Representative of Delta State Commissioner for Justice, Mrs. Juliet Ojefia, Esq., Vice Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Hon. (Mrs.) Omovie-Oputu Najite, Director-General, Delta State Security, Hon. David Tonwe, former Udu Local Government Chairmen; Chief Andrew Orugbo, Chief Henry Siakpra and Chief Jite Brown as well as Chief Steve Sokoh, Chief Godwin Notoma and Chief (Barr) Elizabeth Okene, were present during the meeting.
