The Delta State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has launched a fresh attack on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, accusing him of misappropriating the N14.5 billion Paris Club collected by the State, even as the party attributed the ongoing strike action embarked upon by teachers in public primary and secondary schools in the State as error on the part of the government.
Delta State SDP Chairman, Mr. Oke Idawene, who fielded questions from reporters in Asaba, noted that Okowa has allegedly refuse to tell the people how the money was spent.
According to Idawene who was recently elected Chairman of Forum of SDP Chairmen in the country, “Governor Okowa collected the fund in December last year, but allegedly spent it on frivolous projects, while claiming to have utilized it to develop the State”.
Idawene said the current teachers’ strike in the state is a confirmation that Okowa had failed on his SMART Agenda and the fulfillment of prosperity of all Deltans.
“The SDP had two months ago cautioned the people against Okowa’s utterances on the strike, which are clear indications that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is a mockery in the State,” he said.
The SDP Chairman also accused the PDP of failing in human capital development and security matters, a situation “that has exposed the residents to attacks by the Fulani herdsmen”, warning that the State might soon be unable to pay workers’ salaries unless the alleged mismanagement is looked into.
According to Idawene, SDP had started to mobilize the people to vote out the PDP in 2019 governorship election.
