Warri South Local Government Council in Delta State has projected the sum of N875, 858,488.00 as its expected Internally Generated Revenue, IGR in 2017 with the hope of getting N1, 975,762,038.00 as statutory Federal and State allocations for the fiscal year.
This much was disclosed Tuesday March 14 when Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema presented the 2017 budget estimate of three billion, seven hundred and twenty one million, three hundred and eighty-five thousand, three hundred and seventy-one naira, fifty-nine kobo (N3,721, 385, 371.59) to the Council’s legislative Arm.
Hon. Edema who christened the 2017 appropriation “Budget of complete Restoration and Hope,” explained that the budget “is geared towards restoring and facilitating all-round socio-economic and infrastructural development of the entire local government area”.
While noting that the 2016 budget of his administration was not fully executed due to the global fall in oil prices and recession, the Warri South Council Boss emphasized that his administration recorded huge success in the promise of “removal of all illegal payments, all illegal allowances, ghost workers and plugging of all loopholes/leakages”.
A breakdown of the 2017 estimate shows that capital expenditure will gulp N917,350,875.00, consolidated revenue fund charges will take N942,088,153.26, while personnel and overhead cost will gulp N1,214, 673,538.33 as well as N647,272,805.00 respectively.
Further breakdown reveals N390, 792, 500.00 is budgeted for economic sector, education sector, health and administration sectors will claim N35, 250,000.00, N108, 045, 000.00 and N202, 920, 375.00 respectively.
As major source of revenue to the Council, Hon. Edema disclosed that one hundred and five million naira (N105, 000,000.00) has been budgeted to develop markets in Warri, even as N60 million will be expended to continue the strides so far recorded in environmental sanitation in the council.
Receiving the draft estimate, Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Sunday Aguweye assured that the House will give accelerated hearing and passage to the 2017 budget proposal, “miscellaneous Revenue By-law and Refuse Collection/Disposal Bye-law 2017”.

Bawo Alex Nanna, Supervisors, the Council Head of Personnel’ Management, Directors and the Chief Orientation & Mobilization Officer of National Orientation Agency, NOA for Warri South Local Government Area, Efejuku Julie Omasan, were among dignitaries that accompanied Hon. Edema to the budget presentation.
