There have been heated arguments between passengers and commercial bus/ tricycle riders in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas in Delta State, since the turn of the new year, following the huge drop in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise known as fuel.
From the popular Effurun Roundabout in Uvwie Local Government Area, to the extremely busy Igbudu Market in Warri, Warri South Local Government Area, it has been a tale of heated arguments between passengers and drivers of commercial buses and tricycles, due to the refusal of the commercial drivers to reduce transport fares, despite drop in fuel price.
Our Correspondents, who boarded different commercial buses and tricycles across various routes in Warri and Effurun, observed the common use of " unah go say nah government bad, but nawi dey do ourselves," by aggrieved passengers.
The removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saw the price of PMS per litre, rising to between N1,200 and N1,400 in filling stations and" black market", leading to about 100 percent increase in intra and inter city transportation.
Most of the passengers spoken to, stated in frustration that the commercial drivers, have refused to reduce their transportation fares, even though the price of PMS per litre in Warri and Effurun, as at Saturday January 11, was between N935 and N1,020, depending on the filling station and sales point.
