Chairman, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Indigenous Contractors' Forum, Engr. Ogie Samson has congratulated the government and people of Delta State on the 34th anniversary of the creation of the state.

 

In a congratulatory message, Samson lauded the progress the state has made over the years and particularly in the last two years since Governor Sheriff Oborevwori mounted the saddle.

 

He stated that Deltans have every reasons to celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the state noting however that Delta, with collective contributions of all, will get to her expected position in the committee of states in the country.

 

Samson, who is also the National President, Elite For Good Governance as well as National Secretary, Niger Delta Youth Observers noted that the journey and successes of Delta State will not be complete without touching the impact and dividends of the people from the oil-producing areas. 

 

"It is the blessings of the oil-producing areas that make Delta State a standout state", he said and expressed appreciation to the first-class traditional rulers and political leaders of the oil-producing areas. 

 

"This publication will not be complete without a vivid examination of how the good people of the oil-producing areas have been treated, either positively or negatively, ever since the creation of our dear Delta state. 

 

"We should consider the academic, productive, emotional impact on the people who are from the oil-producing areas. We should consider and analyse the role of the government and people both from employment, empowerment and social wise", he added. 

 

Samson lamented that conflicts, divisions and deceptions have affected the growth of the state in terms of industrialisation and ethnic amalgamation and appealed to all to bury their differences and cooperate to bring the state to be amongst the best industrialized in the country.

 

He urged for an all inclusive of the people of the riverine communities in all government and private employment, empowerment including patronage of indigenous contractors.

 

"We, the people from the oil producing areas are expecting adequate consideration in terms of employment and empowerment as we hope indigenes, who are contractors, should be thoroughly considered as benefactors of Delta as a state and Nigeria in general.

 

Saluting the Governor on the occasion of the anniversary, Samson said: “You have reignited hope among the people of Delta State that at 34 we can look back on the progress made and see that there are good things around the corner.

 

He urged Deltans from all walks of life to continue to support the Oborevwori administration to enable it to succeed and deliver on the dividends of good government.

 

Samson wished the government and people of the state more years of progress and success.
