Operation Delta Hawk’s chase of a young man by the name Amadi to Ubeji/Egbokodo River and their alleged pelting of stones on the young man, which reportedly led to his death in the river, has drawn the ire of the leadership of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC.
Public Relations Officer of INYC, Hon. Tuoyo Ebigbeyi Awani, in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International, Wednesday April 1, strongly condemned the action of Operation Delta Hawk.
Hon. Awani, who described the security team’s conduct as grossly unprofessional, barbaric and extrajudicial, said Amadi, who was a resident of Egbokodo, was sitting in a friend's shop, Tuesday March 31, when a boy in the Operation Delta Hawk’s van, pointed at him, leading to a hot chase by operatives of Delta Hawk.
According to him, they chased Amadi to the Ubeji/Egbokodo River and pelted him with heavy stones from the riverbank, resulting in heavy bruises on his head, other parts of his body and subsequent death.
The INYC Imagemaker, disclosed that it was when some youths in the community, went into the river to search for him after operatives of Delta Hawk had left, they found his lifeless body, with bruises on his head.
The Itsekiri youth body, called on the Delta State Commissioner of Police and the Inspector-General of Police, to investigate the death of Amadi, warning that the reckless invasion of Itsekiri communities and extrajudicial killings in Itsekiri land by security operatives, will no longer be tolerated.
