Even the heavy rainfall could not dampen the spirit of the Aid Her Initiative team as they brought hope, education, and empowerment to rural communities in Delta State on October 11, 2025, marking the International Day of the Girl Child.
The event marked the second series of the Initiative’s 2025 outreach programmes — following the impactful World Menstrual Hygiene Day outreach on May 28, where the team visited the rural communities of Ajagbodudu (Itsekiri) and Opuama (Ijaw) in Warri North Local Government Area.
Building on that momentum, the October programme extended the message of empowerment to new communities across Warri South and Warri South-West, reinforcing the Initiative’s commitment to education, hygiene, and gender awareness.

During this latest outreach, the team visited Erejuwa II Grammar School, Ode-Itsekiri, Ogbe-Ijoh Grammar School, Ogbe-Ijoh, and the Ogbe Community Town Hall, Ogbe-Ijaw, reaching hundreds of girls, women, and boys with a dynamic programme designed to tackle menstrual health, personal hygiene, and gender awareness.
For many of the girls, it was their first time receiving proper menstrual hygiene products, along with guidance on managing their cycles safely and confidently.
The programme began with students completing the Menstrual Practices Questionnaire (MPQ), providing the Aid Her Initiative team with vital insights to assess the challenges girls face and how best to address them.
Armed with this knowledge, the team facilitated sessions covering menstrual hygiene management, infection prevention, and practical tips for maintaining personal care.

Boys and young men were also actively engaged — learning how to support their sisters and peers during menstruation, and gaining practical knowledge about personal grooming and hygiene. Each participant received a comprehensive hygiene kit, ensuring that lessons learned could be immediately applied at home, in school, and within their community.

Community support was strong and visible. Youth leaders welcomed the team warmly, while volunteers from the Nigerian Girl Guides (Delta Chapter), health professionals, and social workers joined hands with the Aid Her team to ensure every session was impactful. Generous contributions from Tantita Security Services Nig. Ltd., Gimbrown Marine Group, Nigerian Ports Authority – Delta Ports, Hon. (Chief) Thomas Ereyitomi (House of Representatives Member, Warri Federal Constituency), The Warri South & South-West LGA, Oyins Oil and Gas Ltd., NULGE Warri South Chapter, Seaview Table Water, and Tomba Resources Nig. Ltd. made the outreach possible, providing resources and logistical support to reach even the most remote communities.
The event sparked hope and gratitude among participants. Many girls expressed joy not only for the items received but for the attention given to their concerns, the chance to ask questions, and the knowledge that they are supported by their community. Parents and school authorities in attendance shared heartfelt appreciation, noting that the programme addressed both practical and social challenges surrounding menstruation.

Speaking passionately at the event, Mrs. Ofe Omoregbee, Convener of the Aid Her Initiative, said:
> “Our goal is to empower every girl, no matter where she lives. Menstrual hygiene is about dignity, confidence, and the freedom to learn without barriers. Today, we also teach boys to be allies and understand the importance of supporting their sisters. Together, we can break the silence and end the stigma around menstruation.”
The success of this outreach reinforces the mission of the Aid Her Initiative — to build a #PeriodFriendlyWorld where no girl is left behind due to period poverty, lack of knowledge, or stigma. As the team looks ahead, there are plans to extend the programme to even more schools and communities, ensuring that every girl and young woman in Delta State has the tools, education, and confidence to thrive.
