The Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, has thrown its weight behind ongoing protest by Ugborodo indigenes against Chevron Nigeria Limited and its JV Partner, NNPCL .
Fresh Angle International understands that the protesters stormed Chevron EGTL, Ugborodo, Warri South - West Local Government Area, in the early hours of Monday December 15, accusing the oil and gas major of breach in implementation of the Local Content Act, as it affects " employment and empowerment."
President of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, Comrade Appearance Afejuku, who spoke to This Newspaper on telephone from the protest ground Monday afternoon, said Chevron Nigeria Limited must allocate 70 % slots of its workforce and contracting firms to indigenes of Ugborodo Community.
Comrade Afejuku, asserted that Chevron Nigeria Limited, NNPCL and Shell Petroleum Development Company, should " immediately implement the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA" vowing that the protesters will continually occupy the company facilities until their demands are met.
The protesters, carried placards with inscriptions such as " Chevron Supretendents should stop bringing their relatives to replace indigenes of Ugborodo" and " Chevron and JV belongs to Ugborodo Community."
