Agbateyiniro to traditional, religious leaders: Ensure no child is left behind in the immunization of MRV

The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, has charged traditional and religious leaders, to use their influence to spread the truth about vaccines, so as to dispel rumours and ensure no child is left behind in the administration of Measles Rubella Vaccine, MRV and other vaccines.

 

 

The Warri South Local Government Boss, who was represented by his wife, Mrs. Roli Agbateyiniro, handed down the charge at the Warri South Council Sub-Secretariat in Warri, Delta State, Wednesday February 4, during flag off of immunization of the Measles Rubella Vaccine, MRV in the local government area.

Agbateyiniro, commended development partners such as WHO, UNICEF, GAVI for their support, saying the Measles Rubella Vaccine, MRV, is being administered to children between the ages of 9 months to 14 years in schools, health facilities, churches, mosques, market places and other strategic locations in Warri South Local Government Area.

Whilst noting that the immunization campaign includes other vaccines in the Nigerian Child Immunization schedule, the Warri South Chairman, urged parents, caregivers and stakeholders to ensure that their eligible children are vaccinated.

According to him, vaccines are safe, effective and free, adding that vaccination remains the strongest shield against deadly diseases such as tuberculosis, poliomyelitis, measles and meningitis.

The Deputy Director, Disease Control & Immunization, Delta State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, DSPHCDA, Pharm. Richard Ogide, who represented the Executive Director of the agency, Dr. Paul Yinkore, appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that their children take the Measles Rubella Vaccine, MRV.

 

 

Owvighose Darlington Obaro, speaking

 

Representative of the World Health Organization, Owvighose Darlington Obaro, disclosed that at the expiration of the 12 days stipulated for the immunization exercise, the MRVs will be taken to health centres and only children of less than 2years would continue to enjoy the privilege afterwards.

Whilst noting that the immunisation began January 31, Obaro, noted that people who are sick, are exempted from taking the vaccine.

The Executive Secretary, Local Health Authority, Warri South Local Government, Dr. Tosan Sagay, Oyede Jennifer of International Vaccines Access Centre, IVAC, the Health Promotion Officer, Warri South Local Government, Ana Potokri, the State Technical Facilitator for Warri South, Sir. Akalusi Elvis and the Local Immunization Officer, Warri South Local Government Council, were among critical stakeholders that spoke during the ceremony.

Highpoint of the occasion, was the immunization of children within the age bracket, by the Chairperson of Warri South Local Government Area, Mrs. Roli Agbateyiniro and other stakeholders.

The Chief Inspector, Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Sam Ugbejeh, who was represented by an Assistant Director in the Ministry, Mrs. Ekwu Rosemary, the Executive Secretary, Local Education Authority, Warri South, Augusta Omatsone, APC Women leaders of the twelve federal wards in Warri South, faithful of the party, members of the National Council of Women Societies, Warri South Chapter, breastfeeding mothers, teachers as well as pupils of Cavegina and Mowoe Primary Schools in Warri, were present during the flag off.
