Tantita Security Services: Driving Nigeria’s Oil Sector Recovery, Combating Crude Theft and Empowering Host Communities

In recent times, there has been a wave of criticisms and calls largely driven by a few overzealous individuals within the Niger Delta urging the Federal Government to terminate the contract awarded to Tantita Security Services.

It is important to state clearly and unequivocally that such agitations are misguided and are also rooted in bad faith, envy, and a lack of objective assessment of the current realities in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Tantita Security Services has without a doubt, emerged as a crucial stakeholder in the fight against crude oil theft in Nigeria. Before their engagement, the country faced unprecedented losses due to oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism, and illegal refining activities. Today, the situation has significantly changed. There is verifiable improvement in crude oil production output and a noticeable decline in oil theft developments that stem from the strategic interventions from Tantita.

Those calling for the cancellation of Tantita’s contract evidently lack a proper understanding of the measurable progress that has been recorded. Their position ignores the facts on ground and undermines the national interest. The Federal Government must therefore disregard such calls and remain focused on policies and partnerships that deliver tangible results.

Beyond securing pipeline infrastructure, Tantita has played a crucial role in socio-economic stabilization, particularly in the Niger Delta region. By engaging thousands of youths and adults, the company has created meaningful employment opportunities, thereby reducing restiveness and criminal tendencies. It is not an exaggeration to state that, without this level of engagement, the region could have witnessed heightened unrest with far-reaching consequences for national security and economic stability.

Beyond its security operations, Tantita's impact is felt in other areas. The company has shown genuine dedication to community development and economic empowerment. By providing financial aid and business support. They have helped numerous small-scale entrepreneurs and local businesses flourish and maintain their livelihoods. This focused approach to empowering the local economy is both commendable and effective.

The leadership of High Chief Kestin Pondi, the Managing Director of Tantita, deserves special recognition. Under his guidance, the company has combined operational efficiency with community sensitivity, ensuring that both national economic objectives and local developmental needs are met. The management team and all contractors of Tantita equally merit commendation for their dedication and professionalism in delivering on this critical national assignment.

Given the scale of success already recorded, the way forward is clear. Instead of calls for termination, the Federal Government should, as a matter of urgency, expand the operational scope of Tantita. Such expansion will not only consolidate the gains made in curbing crude oil theft but will also create additional employment opportunities for Nigerian youths, thereby addressing one of the root causes of insecurity.

In addition, consideration should be given to making Tantita’s contract more permanent and institutionalized. Stability in this critical engagement will encourage long-term planning, sustained investment and even greater efficiency in safeguarding Nigeria’s oil assets.

In conclusion, Tantita Security Services is not the problem, it is part of the solution. All stakeholders must therefore rally support for the company to do more and achieve even greater milestones for the benefit of Nigeria’s economy and its people.
