The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) has called for stronger collaboration with traditional rulers in Kogi State to promote safety consciousness and prevent hazards in workplaces and communities across the state.
The appeal was made during an endorsement visit to HRH Ali Yusuf Ameadaji, the Achadu Oko Ata and Prime Minister of the Igala Kingdom, by the newly appointed Kogi State Government Consultant on Safety Standards, Regulation and Compliance, Elder Dr. Friday Sani, who also doubles as the Kogi State Branch Chairman of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON).
Speaking shortly after the visit, Dr. Makama described the endorsement as a major boost to the institute’s efforts to deepen safety awareness and compliance in Kogi State.
According to him, traditional institutions remain critical stakeholders in mobilising grassroots support for safety campaigns and environmental protection initiatives.
“This royal blessing further strengthens our safety compliance initiatives in Kogi State and creates an enabling environment for professional safety institutions like ISPON to thrive,” he said.
Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that he stressed the need for collective responsibility in promoting safe practices in homes, workplaces, schools, and public spaces, noting that safety should become a culture embraced by all residents.
“We must all become safety conscious in order to maintain a healthy and hazard-free environment. Prevention remains the most effective approach to safeguarding lives and property,” Makama added.
The ISPON chairman also called for deliberate government policies aimed at improving safety standards and enhancing security across the state.
According to him, stronger enforcement of safety regulations would reduce workplace accidents, environmental hazards, and other preventable incidents.
“The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria was established in 1980 by an Act of Parliament, passed into law in 2014 and has continued to play a pivotal role in promoting professionalism and best practices in safety management nationwide,” he stated.
He described the strengthening of ISPON’s presence in Kogi State as a landmark development capable of advancing institutional growth and public confidence in safety administration.
“The establishment and strengthening of the institute’s presence in Kogi State is historic. It signals that the state is on the path of growth and institutional development,” he said.
“This is the first time we are witnessing this level of structured attention and commitment towards the protection of human lives and safety governance in the state.”
Makama further urged organisations, business owners, and community leaders to partner with ISPON in advancing safety education and risk management strategies.
He noted that sustained collaboration among government agencies, traditional rulers, professional bodies, and residents would significantly improve public safety outcomes across Kogi State.
Elder Dr Friday Sani strongly demanded support for the current Government of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo describing Him as one of the best thing God has done for Kogi State.
He added that,in the next one year the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria should be able create uncountable jobs within and outside the state because certification of safety licence to practice can now be obtained in Kogi State.
