The Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youth, UIY, Edo/Delta Central Zone, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to engage all stakeholders transparently, address legitimate concerns and ensure that the final outcome of the proposed delineation of units and wards in Warri Federal Constituency, reflects justice, fairness and constitutional integrity.
The Itsekiri youth body, in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International, Thursday June 11, also tasked the electoral umpire to maintain transparency, fairness, and active indigenous stakeholder-participation in the ongoing delineation exercise in Sapele and Ethiope West Local Government Areas.
Chairman of Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youth, UIY, Edo/Delta Central Zone, Esogie Toritseju Endurance and the Secretary, Harrison Besidone Abugewa, in the statement, emphasized that they were in solidarity with the people of Warri Federal Constituency, in rejecting any ward delineation process that lacks transparency, fairness, and adherence to historical, legal, and demographic realities.
The statement, reads:
“The Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youth (UIY) Edo/Delta Central Zone stands in solidarity with the people of Warri Federal Constituency in rejecting any ward delineation process that lacks transparency, fairness, and adherence to historical, legal, and demographic realities.
“As proud sons and daughters of the Itsekiri Nation, we reaffirm our unwavering support for our people and reject any process that threatens the rights, voice, and representation of indigenous communities in their ancestral homeland.
“We call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold justice, truth, and constitutional principles by ensuring transparency, stakeholder-engagement, and a clear explanation of decisions affecting the future of the people.
“Though geographically outside the three Warri Local Government Areas, our bond with Warri and the Itsekiri people remains unbreakable. United by history, heritage, culture, and common destiny, we firmly believe that an injury to one Itsekiri community, is an injury to all. We maintain that indigenous ownership, ancestral heritage, and long-established community realities must be respected and protected.
“No people should become strangers in their own homeland, and no process should undermine their historical identity and legitimate rights.
“We urge all relevant authorities to ensure that fairness prevails over political convenience and that every decision strengthens democracy through justice, inclusion, credibility, and peace.
“The people of Warri Federal Constituency deserve a process that inspires confidence, promotes harmony, and guarantees equitable representation.
“We therefore call on INEC to engage all stakeholders transparently, address legitimate concerns, and ensure that the final outcome reflects justice, fairness, and constitutional integrity. We also call on INEC to maintain transparency, fairness, and active indigenous stakeholder-participation in the ongoing delineation exercise in Sapele and Ethiope West Local Government Areas.
“The UIY Edo/Delta Central Zone remains resolute in defending the rights of indigenous communities and supporting all lawful and democratic efforts aimed at protecting justice, equity, and truth.”
