The Pessu Ebiowa Family in Warri, has warned those planning Independence Day Celebration on October 1, to restrict themselves to Odion Community, saying James Street is part of Pessu community.
Position of Pessu family, was contained in a disclaimer titled “RE: ODION INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION -PUBLIC DISCLAIMER BY THE PESSU FAMILY.”
The disclaimer, dated September 27, 2026 and signed by the Olare-Aja of Pessu Town/The Onukute of Okotomu-Irigbo Warri Kingdom, Pa. Hon. D. S. T. O. PESSU Esq., reads inter-alia: “The attention of the Pessu Family of Pessu Town has been drawn to an Invitation Card and a letter in various platforms including social media platforms by some persons i.e. Mr. Edwin Efejuku and Mr. Oritseneye Fredrick masquerading as representative of Odion that there is going to be an Independent Day Celebration on the 1st of October 2026 tagged as "ODION INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION" to be held at JAMES STREET PESSU on 15th October 2026.
“We wish to notify the public that the Ogisi Family of Odion have in recent times made several fruitless moves to claim Pessu Town as Odion. They have writter and peddled all sorts of falsehood to make unfounded claims to Pessu Land which the Pessu Family each time have duly responded to.
“This so called "ODION INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION" slated to be held at JAMES STREET PESSU on 1st October 2026 is the recent one they have now embarked upon wherein they have also referred to JAMES STREET as Odion.
“We wish to state categorically that JAMES STREET is not and has never been part of ODION but PESSU and PESSU is not part of ODION. The Road from Bowen Avenue to Cementary Road Junction even though called Odion Road, is not Odion but Pessu Community. Warri/Sapele Road is not Sapele.
“The boundary between PESSU and ODION is the Odion Creek to and Cementary Road, Warri with the Ogisi Family of Odion occupying the other side of Cementary Road comprising lyara Street etc which is the proper place hold the said Odion Independence Day Celebration.
“We are making this Publication to correct any misrepresentation that may arise from the said Letter and Invite as well as prevent or avoid any breakdown of law and order that may result therefrom.
