Delta Government lacks Industrial Development Vision, Squanders Opportunities with N50,000 Empowerment- Eshor

Engr. Isaac Eshor, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in the 2027 Delta State governorship election, has criticised the Delta State Government over its reported empowerment of more than 100,000 small-scale business owners with N50,000 each, describing the initiative as an inadequate response to the state's economic and industrial development challenges.

Eshor, while reacting to the announcement published on the Delta State Government's official website, questioned the economic impact of distributing such funds without a corresponding long-term strategy to revive industries and create sustainable employment opportunities.

He argued that rather than concentrating largely on the distribution of small financial grants, the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration should prioritise the establishment of factories, revival of moribund industries and development of productive sectors capable of generating thousands of jobs.

According to him, Delta State has enormous economic potential, but the absence of a clear industrial development strategy continues to limit opportunities for its growing population.

He maintained that the state should be thinking beyond temporary financial assistance by investing in manufacturing, agriculture, maritime development and other productive ventures that can strengthen the economy.

Eshor further questioned what he described as the absence of a clear economic blueprint for translating the huge federal allocations received by the state into tangible economic development.

He said: "It is unfortunate that a state like Delta, with enormous natural and economic resources, is still struggling with the challenge of reviving its industries and creating sustainable employment opportunities.

Instead of focusing primarily on distributing N50,000 to small-scale business owners, why can't the government channel substantial resources into establishing factories, reviving dead industries and creating an enabling environment for private-sector investment?

How many sustainable jobs can N50,000 create? How many factories can we establish? How many unemployed youths can benefit from a functional industrial sector?

Empowerment should not end with the distribution of money.

It should involve building an economy where people can find decent jobs, establish businesses and become economically independent.

The AAC governorship candidate stressed that Delta State needs a comprehensive industrialisation policy that will move the state from excessive dependence on government spending to a productive economy driven by manufacturing, agriculture, technology and the maritime sector.

He called for greater transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, insisting that government expenditure should be measured by its long-term impact on the lives of ordinary citizens.

Eshor reiterated that Delta State deserves an economic development framework that prioritises industrial growth, sustainable employment, wealth creation and opportunities for the next generation.
