As the Christmas draws closer, Christians all over the country have been advised not to allow mundane things of life associated with the yuletide divert their focus on God.
The Catholic Bishop of Bomadi vicariate, His Lordship, Bishop Hyacinth Egbebo Oroko gave the advice during a mass celebrating the beginning of Advent.
He told Christians that there is need for them to always wait in the Lord according to the teaching of the scriptures as exemplified by Jesus Christ.
The text which was taken from the Book of Luke 21:28 tasks Christians to watch and pray because redemption of man is near. According to the Bishop, Advent is a period for the reparation of sin in the life of all Christians, preparing their hearts for the second coming of the Lord and enjoined Christians to wait in the Lord according to the Biblical injunctions, noting that followers should rekindle their faith so as to be strong in the service of God.
The cleric reminded the congregation that signs of the last days are evident that the second coming of the Lord is at hand, stressing that Christians should be prepared for his second coming. Bishop Egbebo admonished Christians to withdraw from drunkenness, stealing and refrain from all sinful behaviours that could derail them from waiting in the Lord.
He also reminded Catholic faithful that this is the year of faith in which Pope Benedict the XVI tasks Christians to propagate the word of God, even as he charged parents to deepen their children’s understanding of Christmas.
The Catholic Bishop who preached tolerance, love for one another in the yuletide period called on Christians not to drink away the true meaning of Christmas, stressing that Christmas is not a period we bring sadness to people but good things. “Yuletide is always a period of rush when people indulge in all manner of things to make fast money to celebrate it. Some Christians are not preparing for the Christmas according to the scriptures, but in the ways of the world, throwing party, eating, and drinking away the true essence of the season, which do not please God. As Christians, show love between husband and wife and to your children as well as celebrate the Christmas with the fear of God” Bishop Egbebo stated.
