There is growing controversy over the cause of a fire outbreak that has rendered 3 families homeless at 37 Ekurede Itsekiri road, close to Ogiame Primary School in Warri, Delta State, Fresh Angle can exclusively report.
Our Correspondents who were at the scene of the inferno hours after the incident occurred on boxing day (December 26) report that while some residents in the community blamed the cause of the fire on gas explosion in one of the affected flats, others trace the fire on a PHCN naked high tension cable that fell on the zinc of the flats.
According to the witnesses, it was when PHCN restored power that a spark occurred on the naked cable which was resting on the dry zinc.
Another account also claimed that an electrical malfunction in the most affected flat caused the fire which began at about 10:00am. The fire was finally put off by a combined effort of people in the community as well as fire servicemen from Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC.
No member of the affected families were on ground to share their experiences when Our Correspondents visited the scene and feelers indicate that there weren’t also at home when the fire started despite the fact that it was a public holiday.
Reports say that sympathizers who thronged the scene to put off the fire could not rescue any of the household items in the building as well as wares in the adjourning shops valued at millions of naira.
Owner of the building accommodating the 3 flats and adjourning shops, Elder Beji was also not on ground when Fresh Angle visited.
