“I’m not desperate, I am in this game because I have the zeal”, a chairmanship aspirant for Uvwie local government council in the forthcoming Delta State local government election, Hon. Baro Henry Minabowanre has declared.

Hon. Baro Henry Minabowanre made the declaration during his acceptance speech shortly after he was endorsed as chairmanship candidate for the Uvwie local government plum job by a political pressure group, Uvwie Crusaders for Good Governance.

Hon. Baro Minabowanre said peace, unity and accelerated development of Uvwie local government area are his top priorities if elected as chairman.
Hon. Minabowanre who was a one time Leader of Uvwie Council Legislative Arm, promised that the traditional institutions, elders as well as youths will be taken care of in the area of health if given the mandate.

He averred that his administration will construct new health centres in different parts of Uvwie as well as improve on the existing ones and also improve electricity and portable water supply.

He also pledged to assist the state government in the maintenance of roads in the local government.

In a lecture titled, “Uvwie and the Politics of Atrocities in the 21st Century” which was later broken down to “Politics of Ethics in the 21st Century”, Prof. Joseph Abugu advised Uvwie people to imbibe specific political ideologies in the kingdom such as ethnic protective values where no son/daughter of Uvwie should fight, maim and kill a fellow son/daughter in their quest for power.

Prof. Abugu called on the member representing Okpe, Sapele & Uvwie Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Evelyn Oboro to build a team of leaders, not necessary in academic qualification but with experience and work with them.

The academic also advised Uvwie people, particularly those who are politicians to be united, stressing that it is as a result of disunity that the Okpe and Sapele people are ahead of Uvwie indigenes in political decision making in the state.

In her keynote address, the member representing Okpe, Sapele and Uvwie Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Evelyn Oboro opined that chairmanship position in Uvwie should be rotational.

She cited Otefe-Oghara where former Delta State governor, Chief James Ibori hails from as example, noting that the chairmanship position of Ethiope West local government area is rotational, not exceeding 3 years in office.

Hon. Oboro who is the first Uwie local government council female chairman, called on people of Uvwie to shun politics of acrimony.
Chairman of the event, Engr. Portright Akaighe in his opening speech, revealed that he received a minimum of 12 phone calls from some Uvwie indigenes asking him not to attend the ceremony.

Engr. Akaighe who described the calls as rubbish, noted that he had no hand in the primaries of Peoples Democratic Party or any other party.
He reminded the Uvwie Crusaders for Good Governance that there is work to do if their dream of actualizing Hon. Minabowanre chairmanship is to be realized.

The Very Rev. Father Oghenejode Abaka and Hon. Efe Ofobruku (represented by Mr. Ufuoma Okenini) sent their goodwill messages.
