The Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, Pere Naira Williams Ogoba Oboro Gbaraun 2 has admonished the Federal Government to immediately release the 2 billion naira approved for the take-off of academic activities at the Nigeria Maritime University, NMU in Warri South-West, saying such quick intervention could stop the Niger Delta Avengers from executing its fresh threat to ground crude oil installations in the Niger Delta.
The Gbaramatu Monarch gave the advice Saturday November 4 in Warri through the spokesman of Gbaramatu Traditional Council, Chief Godspower Gbenekama.
While appealing to the dreaded militant group to withdraw their fresh threat and give the Buhari administration a chance to address the 16-point demands of PANDEF, the traditional ruler stressed the need for the immediate take-off of NMU and the Gas Revolution Industrial Park , GRIP (EPZ) project in Warri South-West Local Government Area, insisting both projects will engage thousands of youths in the area and help to strengthen the fragile peace in the Niger Delta, which has led to stability in the oil and gas sector.
He berated the federal government “for allowing 80 percent of NNPC employment and recent investments to be directed towards the Northern part of the country to the detriment of the South-South and South East regions”.
While noting that High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo should not be put “on the firing lines”, Pere Gbaraun 2 enjoined the federal government to as a matter of urgency address critical demands of PANDEF such as the NMU, GRIP, relocation of oil and gas majors’ headquarters to the Niger Delta, de-militarization of the region, fiscal federalism, ownership of oil blocs by Niger Deltans and increased funding of NDDC.
He also admonished the federal government to construct the Omadino, Okerenkoko and Ugborodo access road, linking Warri South to Warri South-West Local Government Areas.
