Uduaghan accuses Ekpan people of digging death traps along Ekpan road
Dr. Uduaghan during the Press briefing

Contrary to allegations from some quarters that Delta State government has refused to rehabilitate Ekpan road which has been described as death trap, the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has accused people of Ekpan Community in Uvwie local government of digging the death traps on major roads in the area.

Dr. Uduaghan made the declaration during a press briefing with journalists in Delta State at Asaba, the State capital.
In his words,” Ekpan people dug the death traps on major roads in their community, their eyes don clear, khaki no be leather. When they were doing it, we were looking at them.”

Dr . Uduaghan who said “Delta State does not want to be a wage paying state”,   said the “challenges rocking that state in the area of payment of pension is so heavy that it requires some discipline to pay all outstanding pension arrears”.

While explaining that the state is in need of 10 billion naira to deal with the outcome of the recent flood that ravaged the state, the governor noted that the 500 million naira allocated to the state by the federal government is still intact.

Dr. Uduaghan said that despite the biometric system put in place, 7,000 ghost workers was recently discovered in the state civil service.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that as the press briefing continued, a mild drama ensued between Governor Uduaghan, his Chief Press Secretary, Sunny Ogefere and Publisher of a local newspaper, Delta Voice.  Dr. Uduaghan advised the publisher of the local newspaper (name withheld) to move away from the type of journalism practiced by one of his colleagues to objective journalism that is devoid of sentiments. This was as a result of arguments between the governor’s chief press secretary and the local newspaper publisher who was bent on asking more than one question that was allowed per journalist during the briefing.
