The Delta State Government has presented cash relief to victims of 2018 flood/fire disaster in some parts of the State, in line with its dedication to the welfare of Deltans.

Presenting the cash to the victims in his office at Asaba, the State Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Barrister Ogwezzy Ernest, said the gesture was to ameliorate the troubles of the victims and reduce the effects of the disaster on them.

Ogwezzy expressed sympathy with the victims over the huge loss experienced as a result of the disaster, saying "today's ceremony is a gesture on the part of the government to bring relief and not compensation to the plight of victims who have suffered some losses as a result of either flooding or fire disaster in some parts of the State.”

He surmised that the present administration, being a proactive and responsive government coupled with its slogan of prosperity for all Deltans, would stop at nothing to guard against any form of disaster and ready to provide palliative for victims of disasters when it occurs.

His words, "it is a known fact that the present administration led by Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is very passionate on the welfare of all Deltans, as he empowered the State emergency Management Agency to respond to victims of flood/fire disaster in some parts of the State.

The Commissioner pleaded with Deltans to guard against incidences that can trigger any form of disaster in the State, especially, flooding/fire, just as he advised those living around flood prone areas to relocate to high ground to avoid any form of tragedy that may occur.

"It is anticipated that the people concerned will heed to this timely warning as government shall not be responsible for anything that may occur to them as a result of failure or refusal to heed this timely warning of the forecasted flooding in the State" he cautioned.

He appealed to Deltans to continually clear and open their drains to allow free flow of water to avoid flooding and also plant flowers and trees in their environment so as to reduce the adverse effect of rainstorm whenever it occurs on our property.

The advise to Deltans is to cultivate the habit of using precise and quality materials for electrical works and ensure that they switch off their electrical appliances when leaving their homes or going to bed as well as control and monitor bush burning in order to guard against fire disaster.

As he implored the victims to put into good use the cash relief given them for the benefit of mankind.
