Nigeria Content Act: Warri Community welders, filters, accuse IOCs of contravention
President Muhammadu Buhari

Welders and Filters in Omadino Community, Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, under the aegis of Omadino Welders & Filters’ Association, OWFA, has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari over “neglect and abandonment of Omadino Community youths as regards employment by International Oil Companies, IOCs, operating in the community in contravention” of the Nigerian Content Act.

The petition made available to Fresh Angle International Friday February 8 by President and Assistant Secretary of OWFA, Comrade Kennedy Ugbameta and Omasanjuwa Ogharandukun respectively, named the defaulting companies to include Nigerian Gas Company, NGC, Nest Oil Nigeria Limited, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, Lee Engineering Construction Limited, Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, FENOG Nigeria Limited, Neconde Energy Limited and Conoil Nigeria Limited.

OWFA, a body under the umbrella of Nigerian Welders Association, stressed that the affected companies, “have arrogantly turned down requests” to address the alleged marginalization of Omadino youths in terms of job opportunities.

While calling on the companies to establish welding and fitting skill acquisition center in Omadino to have more of their indigenes trained for possible employment, the Omadino Welders & Filters’ Association, warned that its members may be forced to take the law into their hands, since all legitimate means to address the situation have been rebuffed by management of the companies.
