Thousands of Surulere residents stormed the "Stay Alive" free Healthcare Medical Service sponsored by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in partnership with the Arrive Alive Diagnosis Hospital and Labakcare organisations for residents of Surulere Community in Lagos.
Our Energy Correspondent, National, reports that the free healthcare service which kick-start Saturday, October 19 at 35, Cole Street, Surulere recorded over 2,000 people both adults and children from various communities within Lagos metropolis to do their check up in various illness.
The free Healthcare which was scheduled to hold for Saturday and Sunday from 10.00a.m to 4.00pm daily at Arrive and Alive Diagnosis Hospital witnessed speaclists of different specialisation from within and abroad attending to residents.
Its General Manger, Corporate Communications of EKEDC, Mr. Godwin Idemudia said the guesture was part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) towards given back to the society where they operates.
Idemudia said that management of EKEDC had decided to support the free health check to the community as part of its corporate obligations in ensuring that its valued customers and Nigerians stay alive to tell their stories.
Free drugs, vitamins, prescriptions, medical observations, Scan and 20 pee cent discount was also given to patients who needs a major diagnosis.
It was also observed that patient from LUTH and other private hospital were in attendance as the organisers also provides feeding for children and aged people.
Consultant Pathologist, Dr. Samuel Keshinro of Stay Alive Project, said over 2,000 residents was attanded to today and hope to continue tomorrow by 10 am to ensure that those not captured today are attended to tommorow.
Keshinro said that the project was to give free health check service to residents of Surulere, adding that the project also included adults and children of all age group.
According to him, Stay Alive project is an initiative of Labakcare Organisation and Arrive Alive Diagnostics and Imaging Services Ltd., fully supported by Eko Electricity Distribution Company and VFD MicroFinance Bank.
“Stay Alive is a community-oriented free health programme focussed on preventive care and screening for common ailments within our environment. This project will be manned by local and international healthcare professionals who will be on ground to screen and/or treat some identified medical conditions. They include hypertension, diabetes, eye conditions, malaria, worm infestation, nutritional deficiencies, common cancers of the cervix, breast and prostate and many more. The project also aims at improving the health status of the underserved by offering focussed health talks, as well as distribution of foods, vitamin supplements, reading glasses and baby delivery kits to the pregnant women".
One of the beneficiary, a business woman, Mrs. Florence Atanda, 65- year old appealed to government at all levels to create effective healthcare service delivery that would be accessible.
Mrs. Atanda said: am a patient of LUTH but when l heard about the free medical service, l decided to come because l can't afford the amount l was asked to pay for scan at LUTH
" I was given 20 per cent discount on the scan l was asked to do by the "Stay Alive initiative which makes it easier for me. The less privileged should be supported on healthcare service by governance. Am a diabetes patient, l was giving series of drugs for free after my diagnosis without payment. I want the hospital to be supported by government," she added.
