The stakeholders made the declaration Thursday November 21, during the grand-finale of the Warri Multi Stakeholders’ Platform Town Hall meeting held at Warri South Sub-Secretariat in Warri.

Participants across the two ethnic groups, promised to do things that would attract development to their areas.

Co-Chairmen of Itsekiri ethnic group in Warri MSP, Dr. Jeffrey Wilkie and Ijaw ethnic group representative, Amb. Meshack Ubabiri, stressed the need for peaceful coexistence, in order to attract development to communities in the upland and riverine areas of Warri South, Warri North and Warri South-West Local Government Areas.

The Network Coordinator, Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta, PIND, Chief Africas Lawal, said the town hall meeting of Warri MSP was yielding positive results, bringing Ijaws and Itsekiris together, with a view to charting a better way forward for development and prosperity.

He charged the people to continue to preach the gospel of peace among all ethnic groups across Delta State, adding that a major aim of Warri MSP is to deal with issues affecting the ethnic groups negatively, so as to proffer solutions to them.

A lead speaker at the event, Dr. Austin Onuoha, charged both Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic groups, to build trust and unity among themselves, accept peaceful resolution through roundtable discussion.

Dr. Onuoha noted that government will not always give them the needed peace when it matters most, adding that Warri MSP will also channel peoples’ grievances to appropriate quarters, either through legislative or policy direction for effective implementation.
