Essay Competition: We received 40,966 essays this year, NSE reveals

The Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, says it received 40,966 essays – a 100% increase from last year and the highest number of essays recorded in the 19-year history of the NSE Essay Competition, Fresh Angle International can authoritatively report.

The disclosure was this morning, Wednesday December 4, during the 2019 NSE Essay Competition Award Ceremony.

NSE noted: “First place winner of the competition will go home with N500,000 worth of equity investments and an additional N500,000 scholarship fund for University Education. The school will also bag the 1st place trophy, 3 desktop computers and a printer.

“To our second place winner, we will award N300,000 worth of equity investments and N400,000 scholarship fund for university education. While the school will receive the 2nd place trophy, 2 desktop computers and a printer.

“Our third place winner will receive N200,000 worth of equity investments and N300,000 scholarship fund for university education. The school will be awarded the 3rd place trophy, 1 desktop computer and a printer.

“We are fuelled by the tangible impact of the NSE Essay Competition on previous participants. In 2017, Gbenjo Olasubomi, who came 3rd position in 2016 and returned to emerge overall winner showing exemplary resilience.

“A particularly interesting story is of Kenneth Ohaeri, a previous winner of the competition who is now a Team Lead in the Market Operations Department of the NSE.

“With a target of 80% financially included Nigerians, this essay competition exposes key stakeholders to innovative perspectives on key challenges relating to financial literacy and how we can move forward.

“In the wake of growing concerns about issues that threaten our collective existence – & in line with our core objectives – our topic this year was closely aligned with the SDGs. We asked, “How can the capital market help to create a better future for all?"

Fresh Angle International understands that the 2020 edition will mark 20 years of the NSE Essay Competition’s existence.
