The people of Ijegbo Efurukpe Community in Ethiope West localgovernment area have appealed to Delta State government to directcontractors handling the abandoned Efurukpe/Otefe road and electricity projectsin the community to return to site.

Head of the community, Pa. Michael Oleh who expressed thethoughts of people of the community in an exclusive chat with FreshAngle, explained that the Efurukpe / Otefe road project which wasallegedly awarded to Gomene Construction Company in 2009 by Delta State OilProducing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC have been abandoned forundisclosed reasons.

Pa. Oleh who claimed that former Delta Stategovernor, Chief James Ibori was born in Efurukpe, declared that several effortsto make the contractor handling the project return to site have yielded noresult as the contractor accused DESOPADEC of being responsible.

A member of the community leadership, Mr. Omejuyadomi Ogele whoalso bare the people’s frustration, told Fresh Angle that an electricityproject allegedly awarded to a Benin Chief, Chief Asemota and one Ogheneovosince 2009 have also been abandoned.

According to him, Efurukpe is the only community in EthiopeWest local government area of Delta State withoutelectricity. He disclosed that since 2009 when the electricity project wasawarded, only a transformer, feeder and cable was installed, without any formof power supply. This according to him has led to the vandalism of cable in 12poles. They called on the state government to intervene by ensuring that theaffected contractors return to site.

The Ijegbo Efurukpe community used the medium to appeal tothe state government to construct a health centre and secondary school in thecommunity.
