We have recorded over 100 percent attendance in CNS organized competitions- Pastor Irerhievwe

The chairman, Chemical Society of Nigeria, CNS, Pastor Gideon Irerhievwe says the Chemical Society of Nigeria has recorded more than 100 percent attendance in its organized competitions.

Pastor Irerhievwe made the disclosure during the Awokoya Memorial organized by the Delta State Chapter of Chemical Society of Nigeria, CSN held at Effurun, Delta State.

He also encouraged students to take a stand and become more determined in their studies. He said the society is planning to embark on enlightenment campaign to increase more participation in the Awokoya Memorial Competition.

In his address, chairman of the occasion and National Chairman of CSN, Dr. Shettima Saidu applaud Chevron Nigeria Limited for funding the programme over the years.

Dr. Saidu who was represented by Dr. Henry Adimula, appealed to the students to avail themselves of the opportunity of the Awokoya Memorial to learn as well as practicalize their knowledge.

In a remark, the General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, PGPA, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Deji Haastrup, congratulated the various winners for 2013.

Mr. Haastrup stated that the Awokoya Memorial Competition is to honour a great professor in Chemistry, Prof. Stephen Oluwale Awokoya who died on March 15, 1985.

The PGPA boss who was represented by the Area Manager PGPA Warri Office of CNL, Tunji Idowu said that education remains a veritable tool for national development, adding that Chevron is highly committed to the development of education as well as the Awokoya Memorial annual competition.

In his keynote address, Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Patrick Mouboghare, saluted the courage of the organizers and the students for their determination in making sure they become chemist, just as he advised students not to engage in examination malpractices in order not to attract 21 years imprisonment.

The Commissioner who was represented by Dr. Mike Emeshili applauded Chevron for supporting the state government in its quest at developing education.

A technical presentation titled, stress corrosion on cracking was also made at the event on behalf of Chevron Nigeria Limited by Victor Madumere.

High point of the event was the presentation of award to the overall winner, Oguns Oghenetega Wisdom from Lords and Kings Academy, Warri, Duro Jaiye Victor of Our Saviour’s Secondary School, Sapele and Ajari Ejiroghene Esther of Merit Mixed Secondary School, Sapele who came out second and third respectively.

Our correspondent reports that five teachers from various schools were also given award of honour for their contribution towards the building of the students academically.
