INYC leadership: Names of Seven-Member Electoral Committee, triggers controversy

The names of a Seven-Member Electoral Committee, which was purportedly released Wednesday August 20, by the constitution drafting committee of Itsekiri National Youths Council, INYC, has triggered fresh controversy among critical stakeholders in Warri kingdom, Fresh Angle International, can report.

Recall that The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, had on Monday October 28, 2024, announced dissolution of the executive of Itsekiri National Youths Council, INYC, following “failure of the youth body to successfully adopt a new constitution and conduct election to elect new executives at the National and chapter levels."

The Monarch, immediately appointed Presidents of National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG and National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS as the core of a committee to draft new constitution for INYC, with Chief Omolubi Newuwumi and Chief Wilson Olley working as Advisers.

However, list of a seven-member electoral committee, supposedly set-up by the constitution drafting committee for INYC, which was sighted by This Soaring International Tabloid, Wednesday August 20 in a Whatsapp loop (INYC Patriots) solely membered by Itsekiris, has activated renewed controversy.

The seven-member electoral committee, has Chief Goddy Erewa PhD, from Warri North Local Government as Chairman, Barr. Atie Jemide, from Warri South Local Government Area as Secretary and Atseoritseno Magnanimous Omawumi, representing Itsekiris in Edo state and Delta Central as Member.

Other members of the electoral committee, as posted on the Whatsapp loop by Barr. Oritsetimeyin Otaru, are; Dcn Andrew Boyo, Alias Oluye (Warri North LGA) Chilavet Okotie (Warri South West LGA) Gbubemi Abigor (Warri South LGA) and Capt. John Daje (Warri South West LGA).

Immediate reactions of some members (names withheld) of INYC Patriots’ Whatsapp loop on the membership of the electoral committee of INYC, is as follows: “With all the unresolved issues in the Kingdom, is it INYC elections that we need at the moment? “There can never be a perfect time for it. Do it now and put it behind us. My opinion though, “Itsekiri Native Youth Council* (Registered) *itsekiri National Youth Congress* (Registered) *Itsekiri National Youth Council* (Not Registered) Na which of them Dem take set ELECO so?” “Let it be all inclusive or else we shall all meet at the junction. No Itsekiri is an Igbo man and no Itsekiri is more Itsekiri than the others”, “From my experience, that junction is ahead and can not determine how to cross it.”
