The five suspended Local Government Administrators on Tuesday, October 11 appeared before the Joint House Committee on Public Accounts and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kogi State House of Assembly over alleged misappropriation of local government funds, but failed to tender documents to prove their innocence, Our Roving National Correspondent reports.

The suspended Local Government Administrators who appeared before the committee: are Baron Okwoli Igalamela, Moses Akande Ogori, Tapfiq Isah Ijumu, Moses Olorunleke Kabba Bunu and Abdulkareem Ohiare from Okehi.

Before the day’s business kicked off in the Floor of the Sixth Assembly, the Chairman Joint House Committee on Public Accounts and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Jimoh Omiata, representing Yagba East Constituency noted that they were not out to witch-hunt any individual, but to ensure proper accountability of tax payers’ money.

Adding his voice, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Sunday Shigaba (PDP)  Bassa expressed appreciation to all the administrators for honouring the invitation.

After swearing an oath before the Joint Committee, the suspended Local Government Administrators, including the Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engineer Sadiq Ohere were directed to submit relevant documents before the committee to prove their innocence.

Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Ohere presented documents on behalf of the Ministry, while the embattled administrators failed to tender documents before the committee members.

Fresh Angle International can report that due to the inability of the suspended administrators to provide documents requested by the committee, the Kogi State Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON who doubles as the Administrator of Ijumu Local Government Taofiq Isah, pleaded for more time.

His plea was backed by Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Ohere, but Chairman of the Committee, Jimoh Omiata was not satisfied with the position of the Governor’s Aide.

Sadiq Ohere requested for one week to provide the documents which were later agreed by all members of the committee, even as the Committee insisted that they have no power to return the suspended Local Government Administrators.
