Emulate Osun in school feeding program, Kogi Assembly tells Governor Bello
Speaker, Kogi House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Imam

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has been told to take a cue from Osun State by initiating the school feeding program for primary school pupils across the State.

The call was contained in a resolution by the Kogi State House of Assembly which was moved by the member representing Yagba West, Hon. Oluwatoyin Lawal.

Hon. Lawal while presenting the motion on the Floor of the Sixth Assembly said the problem of child nutrition has moved from a matter of regional and national concern to one of international debate as well as possible global persuasion and policy intervention.

The Yagba East lawmaker maintained that, undernourishment in children is harmful to the children welfare. “A child that is not well fed may not be available for study and this can also reduce learning productivity. It should be noted that Osun State Government initiated a home grown school feeding program that provides a nutritious hot meal from over 24 million primary school children in the state" Hon Lawal said.

He prayed that, the State Government should as a matter of priority initiate its own free school meal program and send a delegation of the State Government led by the Commissioner for Education to visit Osun State to under-study the 0 meal program.

The Majority Leader, Mathew Kolawole while seconding the motion stated that, it will encourage pupils to attend school, calling for its inclusion in the 2017 State appropriation.

Another lawmaker, Obaro Pedro maintained that it will boost the socio-economic programme of the rural dwellers if implemented, even as he allayed fear that it may be hijacked by some selfish individuals in the State.
