Kogi State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension of the 5 Local Government Administrators in the state, Fresh Angle International can authoritatively report.
Our Roving National Correspondent reports that the suspension followed the adoption of the interim report of the House Joint Committee on Public Accounts, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Reading the report before the House, Chairman of the Committee Jimoh Omiata told his colleagues that, contrary to the negative attitude of dodging invitations of committees, the Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abubakah Ohere as well as the five suspended Local Government Administrators honoured the invite and submitted all documents requested.
He went further to state that the embattled local government administrators pleaded for more time to be able to complete the process of documentation and representations.
Parts of the observations of the committee revealed that documentation and records at the local government level is very poor.
Honorable Omiata added that administrators abscond from their duty post for Lokoja instead of staying in their domain to attend to urgent local matters that may require immediate action.
The committee recommended "that all local government administrators be called upon to be more dedicated to their duties, ensure that proper and updated books of account are kept and to forward same to the assembly when requested. They must also ensure that enough time is spent in their areas of jurisdiction to attend to their official responsibilities. That in the absence of the local government legislative council in Kogi State, all local government must, henceforth, submit their monthly returns to the House of Assembly for legislative notice and action. Under the present political arrangement pursuant to part (Vivi) section 56(4), the Kogi State local government law 2000 as amended further stipulates that, the transition committee of each local government area shall render monthly returns of accounts on financial activities of local the government to the house of Assembly".
It will be recalled that Hon. Baron Okwoli (Igalamela Odolu) Moses Akande (Ogorimagongo) Taofeek Isah (Ijumu) Moses Olorunleke (Kabba Bunu) and Abdulrahim Ohiare (Okehi) were all suspended by the House on October 4 over alleged gross misconduct.
