GMoU Chief Raises Alarm: Itsekiri praise, worship songs going into extinction

Three-time Vice Chairman of Chevron established Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC and Warri Community Leader, Ambassador Austin Oniyesan has raised alarm that itsekiri praise and worship songs are going into extinction.

Ambassador Oniyesan made the declaration Saturday November 19 in Warri during the official launch of an Itsekiri song titled “Yiri Oluwa” meaning praise The Lord.

The Chevron GMoU Chief who was represented by his wife, Mrs. Jemine Oniyesan praised the couple who sang the song, Mr. and Mrs. Morison Komami, for what God was using them to do in Itsekiri Nation, especially revitalizing Itsekiri native songs.

The couple, Mr. and Mrs. Morison Komami spoke of their desire to evangelize the gospel of Jesus Christ across Itsekiri communities through music, even as they noted that the album is their debut.

They disclosed that it took them about four years to put the songs together and stressed their resolve to embark on evangelical deliverance mission to Itsekiri revirine communities.

Former Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government Area and Chief launcher of the album, Hon. David Tonwe Who was represented by Mr. Matu assured the husband and wife of his support, just as he appealed to other well meaning Itsekiris to assist Mr. and Mrs. Komami in their Itsekiri gospel music career.
