National Unity: Nigeria to get data base, NIMC


National Identity Management Committee, NIMC in collaboration with National Orientation Agency, NOA has intensified efforts in having a standard data base to promote National unity and identity of individuals which is key to development.

The Bayelsa Coordinator, National Identity Management Committee, Mr. Steven Oyingidenyefa Inokoba stated this in a presentation made to stakeholders in Yenagoa, explaining the need to be enrolled into the National Data Base.

Mr. Inokoba said it is possible as other countries have done it and succeeded, highlighting a few challenges of logistics which includes vehicles in all the local government areas, security personnel for effective delivering and funds to sustain their personnel's.

Inokoha said having an international passport and voters card is the requirement, but for those in the rural areas who do not have these, a letter from the community Chief will be accepted.

He said the minimum age for this exercise is 16 years noting that if a person dies, his identity will immediately be changed to a birth certificate and the card will be retired.

The Coordinator disclosed that the race is in synergy with banks, telecommunication agencies and stated that registration of birth will be the next phase.

He added that a unique 11 digits number identity will bring social and political admiration which will indicate a national symbol.

The State Director National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mr. Hugh Modu Spiff declared his readiness to partner with NIMC and the media for Nigeria to know that they need to behave in a rational way.

Mr. Hugh said NOA only does the talking but the implementation lies in the hands of the security agents.
