Nigeria’s current structure marginalizing ethnic minorities, Group tells Buhari
Prince David Odeli

A prominent Niger Delta group, Concerned Itsekiri Indigenes, CII says the current structure of Nigeria’s federalism is skewed towards marginalizing ethnic minorities and called on the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to as a matter of urgency heed to calls for the restructuring of Nigeria.

President of Concerned Itsekiri Indigenes, CII, Prince David Odeli who made the call Tuesday December 13 during an exclusive chat with Fresh Angle International in Warri, Delta State, accused the federal government of neglecting Warri South, Warri North and Warri South-West Local Government Areas, saying the proposed 2017 budget to be presented by President Muhammadu Buhari at a joint session of the National Assembly, Wednesday December 14 is a clear testament of the insensitivity of the Federal government towards the Itsekiri people.

According to him, vital projects in Itsekiri Areas of Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North such as the Koko-Ogheye Road and the Gas Revolution Industrial Project, GRIP in Ogidigben as well as the Ogheye Floating Market are “frustrating examples of deliberate neglect Itsekiri Nation is facing from both the Federal and Delta State governments.”

While noting that the Federal and Delta State governments should not take the peaceful disposition of the Itsekiri People for granted, Prince Odeli stated that Federal government agencies and parastatals in Itsekiri land “such as Warri and Koko Ports as well as NIMASA are non-functional” even as he alleged “that employment was going on at the Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company, WRPC without our people being engaged.”

He noted that the All Progressives Congress, APC is a convergence of people with different ideological tendencies who came together to remove the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan administration, but seemingly finding it difficult to move the Nation’s economy out of the woods.

The CII averred that the current hardship being experienced by Nigerians is not in tandem with the thinking of people in President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic team, hence the abandonment of economic revival projects like GRIP Ogidigben.
