Let’s eradicate cultism, Okowa urges parents

Parents have again been reminded of the urgent need to inculcate sound moral values on their children as a major panacea for the eradication of cultism in the society and by extention Delta State.

Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa made the call on Thursday June 8, in Agbor while speaking during the Ika South Town Hall Meeting held at the National Hall.

He said parents must balance family needs with morality by spending quality time to impact enduring moral values on their children, adding that by so doing the high rate of cultism across the country will be reduced to the barest minimum, if not completely eradicated.

Gov. Okowa decried a situation where parents avoid their primary responsibility of raising up children in the way of the Lord and passes such vital role to the schools, spiritual leaders, house helps and the Church.

He reminded parents that God mandated them to show their children the right attitudes at their early age in life so that as they grow older, they will not depart from same.

Executive Assistant to the Governor on Communication, Fred Oghenesivbe, quoted Okowa as saying "I am pained over the spate of cultism amonst our children. It’s so bad that it has extended to primary and secondary schools.

“Society is loosing grip of core moral values and we must do something fast about it. It is no longer funny because we are at risk as a result of the moral decay and disregard for human lives due to the rising cases of deadly and dangerous cult groups across the country.

To this end, the Executive Assistant on Orientation in Delta State and his team have been going round the three Senatorial districts; educating our youths about the evils and dangers associated with cultism.

I am therefore appealing to parents to partner with Delta State Government so as to restore good moral values which has been disregarded and fast diminishing from our society and families,” Okowa added.
