Mechanics responsible for many auto crash-Okowa Aide declares

Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on Special Duties, Chief Olori Magege says Mechanics are responsible for many auto crash that occur in Delta State, calling on mechanics and vulcanizers to be more proactive in carrying out vehicle repairs by using original spare parts.

He made the declaration Wednesday July 12 in Warri, Delta State during a stakeholders/ town hall meeting organized by Federal Road Safety Corp Special Marshal, Delta State Chapter for people of Delta South Senatorial district.

The Delta State Coordinator, Federal Road Safety Corp Special Marshal, Dickson Amromawhe noted that FRSC campaign/ town hall meeting and stakeholders’ meetings have gone a long way in reducing road fatalities in Delta State.

While disclosing plans by the State FRSC Special Marshal to take her campaigns to motor parks to sensitize drivers and motorists on how to apply safety rules while plying the roads, Mr. Amromawhe unveiled the road safety CD which will be used to educate road users on safety measures in Nigeria.

The Sector Commander FRSC, Delta State, Core Commander Rindom Kumven warned that any traffic offender arrested henceforth will be made to undergo psychiatric test, adding that the offender will bear the cost implication before he or she will pay the mandatory fine as penalty.

He disclosed that four persons have so far been directed to go for psychiatric test, even as he reminded road users that the non use of seat belt is an offence that will lead to arrest and impounding of vehicles.

Core Commander Rindom Kumven identified major causes of road crashes in Nigeria to include: over-speeding, use of mobile phones while driving and misbehavior by motorists.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that the Unit Commander FRSC Warri, Seidu I O appealed to the Sector Commander to impress it on the Delta State Government to enforce the law against street trading, saying it’s also a factor causing road accidents.

The Chief Inspector of Education, Warri South Local Government, Mrs. Ojumah represented by Mrs. Awoyinka and the DPO of Ekpan Police Station were among personalities that spoke at the stakeholders’ meeting.
