Peace in Niger Delta: NGO to partner security agencies

A Non-Governmental Organization, The Center For Peace And Environmental Justice, CEPEJ has pledged to partner security agencies to sustain peace in the Niger-Delta Region.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Commander, Sector 1, Operation Delta Safe, Warri, the National Coordinator of CEPEJ, Comrade Sheriff Mulade harped on the need for his NGO and the security agencies to collaborate in order to tackle security challenges in the Region.

 

According to him, the purpose of the visit was to share the vision and mission of CEPEJ and the need to promote peace and security, especially during the yuletide season in Warri and it's environs. 

 

While commending the Commander for his good works, the CEPEJ boss said that;" The purpose of our visit to you today is to seek for collaboration with the security agencies in order to sustain in our various Communities. The military is known as peace makers and arbiter between the people and the Government".

 

Comrade Mulade  appealed to the Commander and his men to be at alert, especially during the Christmas season  and to expand their scope in supporting the Nigeria Police, saying that peaceful environment will encourage once and tourism in the oil rich city of Warri. 

 

 'I want to request  for military support for sustainable peace across the riverine communities and the entire state and in that way, the communities will support the Government",  he said.

 

The CEPEJ boss appealed to the military to respect human rights and should not punish people unduly, urging the military to be friendly and civil in discharging their duties. 

 

The National Coordinator used the medium to invite the Commander to  CEPEJ office and intimated him of plans by the NGO  to engage the security agencies in a Round Table discussion by next year,  to discuss security issues as they affect communities and the state generally

 

 Responding,  the Commander Sector 1 Operation Delta Safe, Colonel A M Grema commended the  CEPEJ boss  for his good works in the Niger-Delta Region in the community and  promised that the Sector 1 will increase its patrol within streets in Warri and environs. 

 

 He promised that his office will support CEPEJ in anyway,  especially in striving  for Peace and Justice and gave the CEPEJ boss a pat on the back for his efforts in promoting peace in the Region, urging  him to continue with his good works.

 

While expressing gratitude to CEPEJ team for the visit, he described the visit as a privilege and promised to honour the invitation to visit Cooperate Headquarters of CEPEJ in the nearest future

 

 He presented a season's greeting plaque to the National Coordinator of CEPEJ  and  in return, presented the 2018 Calendar of  CEPEJ  to the Commander, Colonel Grema.
