Hon. Thomas Ibukun Emami

Former Deputy Leader of Warri South -West Legislative Arm and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon. Thomas Ibukun Emami has commended President Muhammadu Buhari, members of the federal executive council, FEC and the Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA for the approval of N13 billion for the dredging of Warri -Escravos Seaport in Delta State.

Hon. Emami, younger brother to the traditional prime minister of Warri Kingdom, Chief Ayirimi Emami, described the federal government's approval as "heartwarming, reassuring and a vindication of Itsekiri people's believe that respect for the rule of law and creating enabling environment will certainly result in remarkable socio-economic and infrastructural development".

The former lawmaker who thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for “heeding to the clarion call to run for a second term”, enjoined the federal government to immediately “hit the ground running by awarding the Warri -Escravos Seaport project to reputable company (ies) and make sure that it is adequately funded so as to make the dream of people of Warri South -West in particular and Deltans in general a reality”.

According to Emami, apart from resuscitating the Warri Port and boosting the socio-economic life of the South -South and South -East geopolitical zones, “the dredging of Warri River and Escravos Bar Mouth will help to tackle incidences of illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism and its affiliated criminal activities".

He admonished the federal government to impress it on the company that will execute the dredging project to conduct detailed environmental impact assessment on its implication on the coastal communities along the Warri -Escravos River in order to save the communities from being washed away.
