13, 128 pupils, 789 teachers benefit from ILP

A total of 10 public schools, 13, 128 pupils and 789 teachers in Delta State have benefitted from an interactive learning initiative  christened ‘Chevron- Interactive Learning Programme, ILP’.

The programme which is an initiative of an NGO and sponsored by Oil and Gas major, Chevron Nigeria Limited, began in 2008 in collaboration with the Lagos State Government through its Ministry of Education.

Fresh Angle International gathered that the public primary schools with its pupils and teachers that have so far benefitted in Delta State are: Agbeje Primary School, Edjeba Primary School, Cavegina Primary School, Ojojo Primary School, Ogunu Primary School, Ewein Primary School, Evwreke Primary School, Egharegbemi Primary School, Ekpan Primary School and Mowoe Primary School.

The General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn in a message Wednesday May 23 during the handover of management of the Chevron- Interactive Learning Programme, ILP,  learning Centre to the Delta State Government, quipped that Chevron was committed to investing in strategic partnership and programmes that improve the socio-economic as well as health situation of communities in the areas and countries where they operate.

Mr. Brikinn who was represented by Chevron’s Senior Government Affairs Advisor, Mr. Happy Apai, thanked Delta State Government and the Initiator, Interactive Learning Programme for their support in making the programme work in Delta State for the past five years.

He admonished the benefiting schools and stakeholders in the communities where the programme is operated, to guide as well as protect the educational videos, DVD players, television sets and generators that make the learning centre unique.

Delta State Commissioner for Education, Barr. Chinedu Ebie who was represented by the Chief Inspector of Education, Warri South Local Government Area, Mr. Okpala Ekene Paul, commended Chevron for their continous educational support projects in the State and appealed to the company to extend the DLA Initiative to all schools in Delta State.

The Project Director, Southern Nigeria Interactive Learning Programme, Dr. (Mrs.) Felicia Moh, explained that ILP is an improved learning skill approach to show pupils practical learning patterns, adding that it makes the pupils to become bold while doing presentations wherever they find themselves.

While commending Chevron for sponsoring the programme, Dr. Moh solicited for sponsorship in order to extend the initiative to other parts of the country.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that others who spoke at the event included: Mrs. Oghenerukevwe Shola Abigor, Mrs. Alice Nwosibe, community leader and PTA Vice Chairman of Ewein Primary School, Ogbe-Ijoh, Mr. Victor Germany as well as Halidu Mohammed, Programme Director, West Africa, ILP.
