Why I initiated Itsekiri Vocational School -Pirah

Initiator of Itsekiri Vocational Language School, Tosan Ekube Pirah says she decided to come up with the programme to enable children of Itsekiri extraction "learn to speak, read, write, cook, all in Itsekiri Language and style".                   

Pirah who disclosed that she has been running Itsekiri classes online via Facebook, noted that her Itsekiri Vocational Language classes "have helped to a great extent to increase the literacy level amongst our Itsekiri people online" and "also reduced the rate of home-breaking in Itsekiri Nation".                   

While thanking prominent Iwere socio-cultural group, Itsekiri National Heritage, INH for sponsoring the first year of the two weeks Itsekiri Vocational Language School held in Warri, Tosan Pirah expressed optimism that subsequent editions of the classes will be better.                      

Chairman of Itsekiri National Heritage, INH, Barr. Esijolomi Rewane in a message through a member of the club, Mr. Julius Otiri,

explained that it was easy for INH to accept sponsorship of the programme, because it was in line with her policy.                    

Mr. Otiri averred that members of INH were delighted with the zeal shown by the children who participated in the edu-cultural programme, even as he expressed excitement over the work done by Tosan and her group with the children.                     
A renowned Itsekiri Language promoter, Pa Macaulay Eyeoyibo, admonished parents and guardians of Itsekiri extraction to speak the language at home to their children as well as wards.                    
Fresh Angle International checks revealed that 113 children of primary and secondary school age participated in the classes, with nine of them excelling very well.                 

Highpoint of the graduation ceremony which held Sunday August 19 in Warri, was colourful presentations by the children, who dressed in Itsekiri rich native attire.
