2500 indigenes benefit from NGO medical service

No fewer than 2500 indigenes of Kogi State recently received free medical services provided by an NGO, Waves of Success Foundation, WSF, at Lokoja and Anyigba.

The patients got free drugs, eyes screening with free eye glasses, and 50 pairs of sandals were also given to 50 children of Adankolo community in Lokoja.

The Founder of the NGO, Mr. Yusuf Ocholi, told journalists at the venue in Lokoja, that the aim was to impact lives of the less privileged people and alleviate their sufferings.

“We are giving free medical treatment because it is when you are alive and healthy that you can pursue your goals and achieve success. Health is the foundation of wealth. For these two days, we have catered for over 2500  people in both Adankolo community in Lokoja on Thursday, November 15 and at Our Lady School in Anyigba on Friday , November 16 were adequate provision was made for the outreach. As a philanthropist, nothing is too much to give. We had donated sewing machines and motorcycles to youths, empowered widows as well paid school fees of indigent children. However, no man is an island, we will appreciate partners and sponsors from other NGOs, groups, individuals, governments and corporate organisations,” Opanachi averred.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that the founder of the NGO opined that the outreach would be extended to communities at Okene in Kogi Central and Kabba in Kogi West zone of the State.

Opanachi added, "the rate of poverty in the land is alarming and until one stretched out one's hand to give, one will never know how many people wants to receive help. The NGO will  go and prepare for its upcoming Football Five Aside, coming up sometime in December".

The Medical Team Leader, Dr. Kelechi Okoro, said the ailments diagnosed and treated include hypertension, diabetes, malaria, arthritis, pneumonia, ulcer and free eye testing.

“We have adequate doctors on ground to screen people, treat, give free drugs and eye glasses to those who need them. We are attending to women, children, youths, men and old people.
We are also enlightening them on family planning and how to prevent unwanted pregnancy as well as sexually transmitted diseases, among others,” Okoro said.

Chief David Agbayi, the Echu of Adankolo, commended the NGO for bringing the outreach to his domain to alleviate the sufferings of indigent people.

 In his remark, "I want to say a great thank you to the organisers for making it a reality and changing the health story of our community. I am also a beneficiary, free drugs and eye glasses were given to me after I was tested, I cannot see far object, I have hitching-eye, fever and ulcer. This is the first of its kind, that people are being diagnosed, treated and giving drugs and glasses at no cost. I want other NGOs to emulate this good legacy,” the monarch said.

Another beneficiary, Malam Umar Musa, who was treated of fever and body pain, told Our Correspondent that “I feel excited and happy to be part of this programme.”

A widow, Ms Jumai Usman, who also received eye glasses, said, “I was diagnosed and given free eye-glass and drugs, I give kudos to the NGO for their goodwill towards us.”

Furthermore, people with special cases were referred to Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, with an intent that the Foundation takes up the bill.

The founder of the NGO also distributed school sandals to about 50 pupils who were not wearing school sandals at the venue.
