About half the size of primary school staff strength in Warri South local government would retire at the age of 60 in another eight years, while the gross salary paid per month as wage bill to primary school staff in the local government as at April 30, 2013 is N 128,268, 251.43.

This much was disclosed by a consulting firm, Barewealth Association, detailed by authorities of Warri South local government to carry out audit of primary schools’ staff  in Warri South local government during the presentation of their report at Warri South Council main secretariat.
Presenting the report, vice chairman of the audit committee and consulting firm, A. G Ovie disclosed that out of the 1,155 academic and non academic staff of primary schools screened in the area, seven were discovered to have died, five identified with health challenges, 10 found to have altered age and eventually sworn to new age affidavit, 99 yet to show evidence of primary school leaving certificate, two with established fake certificates, while 24 are expected to retire by December 2013.

Receiving the report, the Transition Committee Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Augustine Uroye commended the consulting firm for providing data bank for the council to work with, stressing that the exercise is not to witch-hunt anyone.

Dr. Uroye disclosed that his administration will set up a committee to verify the report, even as he stressed that the purpose of the audit report is to enhance the system with a view to addressing challenges facing primary school education in the local government.

While noting that the council is yet to identify any ghost worker in the primary school payroll save for the challenges identified by the consulting firm, Dr. Uroye declared that the local government council in-conjunction with the state universal basic education board will rely on the audit report in its planned desk payment of salaries of primary school staff.

Secretary of Local Education Authority, Warri South Local Government, Hon. Griftson Omatsuli, who was among those that attended presentation of the report described the consulting firm’s report as a guide to correct some anomalies observed in the system.

Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr. Eugene Ebisin, Transition Committee Members of the Local Government, the Warri South Council Head of Personnel Management, Mr. Douglas Acambe, Treasurer to the Local Government, Mr. Santos Ogobri as well as the Warri South branch Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers were among key stakeholders in the local government that graced the presentation.
