Former Vice Chancellor of University of Benin and Warri Kingdom Chief-Designate, Prof. Grace Alele-Williams has tasked Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on the need to give better curriculum design to accommodate Information Technology Education as a way of addressing challenges on the development of science education.

The widely respected Professor of Mathematics who gave the advice Thursday September 29 during the commissioning of a science laboratory donated by Veteran Broadcaster, Mrs. Patricia Otuedon Arawore to Ugbuwangue Basic School, Warri in Delta State, enjoined Delta State Government to allocate more resources to educational development in Delta South Senatorial District as well as engage qualified science oriented teachers.

Veteran Broadcaster and Chief Executive of Hallmark of Labour, Mrs. Patricia Otuedon-Arawore in a chat with newsmen, explained that her decision to donate the science laboratory was borne out of complains by students that they do not have practical knowledge of what they were taught in the sciences.

While noting that she sees the gesture as a social responsibility, Mrs. Arawore who is being speculated to have been penciled down for Chieftaincy conferment by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli, admonished individuals and institutions blessed with the resources not to wait on government alone on the task of developing the educational sector.

Representative of Delta State Government at the ceremony, Dr. Godwin Edozien applauded the gesture of Mrs. Patricia Arawore, saying the State Government is proud of her educational support.

In an address, Principal of Ugbuwangue Basic School, Warri, Mr. Urowayinor O.S. recalled how SSIII students of the school were enrolled for WAEC and NECO exams through a neighbouring school due to the non availability of a science laboratory amongst other factors in the school.

Mr. Urowayinor appealed to public spirited persons and government parastatals like DESOPADEC and NDDC to provide the school with additional classrooms, explaining that the existing classrooms in the school are over-stretched by the teeming students’ population.

He expressed gratitude to Mrs. Arawore and her team in Hallmark of Labour for the philanthropic gesture, noting that she also graciously gave scholarship to some students of the school.

While appreciating the assistance of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli towards the actualization of the Science Laboratory Project, Mr. Urowayinor thanked the leadership of Ugbuwangue Community for allowing the school to use the Community’s Skills Acquisition Centre for the project.

Our Correspondents report that there was cultural dance by students of the school as well as presentation of gift to the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli, who was graciously available for the commissioning of the Science Laboratory.
