he Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has released flash flood alert for the month of July, listing Delta, among states with notable risk and naming Sokoto, as the state with the highest risk in the country.
Fresh Angle International, can report that the warning was contained in a statement the Agency posted on its X handle Monday July 7.
According to NiMet, the warning was as a result of setting-in of onset of rainfall across the country as predicted in NiMet Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) and some advisories to mitigate its impacts.
Other states mentioned as notable risk of flash flooding in this July, are; Kaduna, Zamfara, Yobe, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Jigawa, Adamawa, Taraba, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom.
The Agency, advised: “Clear Drainage Systems, Avoid Driving or Walking through Floodwaters, relocate if necessary, prepare an emergency kit, turn off electricity and gas during flooding, strengthen mudslide prevention, promote community awareness and act early, stay informed.”
