Excerpt:

Let’s meet you.

My name isComrade Happy Mukoro, President, Edjemoyavwe Community Youth DevelopmentAssociation. I am married with children.

How would you describeyour position in the community?

My positionin the community is of God’s blessings and I thank God for it because He hasused the little wisdom He bestowed on me to pilot the affairs of the community.

Would you say democracyis being experienced in your community?

Yes, it isbeing experienced and because there is conflict of interest, there is evendistribution of anything that comes to the community and agreement is reachedat every issue discussed.

Do you supportcommunity policing?

Yes ofcourse, but there are obstacles from law enforcement agents as well as negativeinterest by some community people which makes the whole process ineffective. Wealways flush out bad eggs from the community, but it’s unfortunate thatsometimes the law enforcement agents do not help matters because they exposeconfidential information to criminals which makes it dangerous. They also bailthe suspects who later become threat to the community.

What’s the perceptionof your people regarding your leadership?

Myleadership has been a huge success and it has become a blessing to my people. My people have been very peaceful and in their opinion, our regime is the mosttransparent and peaceful so far in Edjemoyavwe Community, but that does notmean there is no criticism in areas of defects, but all the same they aresatisfied with my administration.

How long have you beenthe chairman?

I have beenthe chairman for the past 21 months, I and my entire executive have 3 months togo and there is no room for second tenure, it is rotational between thequarters that make up the community.

Can you name some ofthe projects you have influenced to the community?

Ouradministration has attracted lots of development to my community. We have beenable to attract developmental strides such as electricity transformers to boostelectricity supply from government, new buildings in Pamol Primary School andOghara-Efe Secondary School situated in Ejemuoyavwe. We have also attracted thetarring of Ugbevwe road, refurbishing of water tank and installation of solarenergy in order to generate effective water supply in the area. Others areerection of MTN and Etisalat masts for effective communication, YouthEmpowerment through Agriculture, YETA, completion of civic centre incollaboration with PAMOL Nig. Plc to fund some section of the community townhall, creation of a peaceful environment for successful take off of DELSUTH aswell as provision of employment opportunities for our people.

How would you describeOghara youths?

Ogharayouths have become very accommodating, because of tremendous awareness campaignthat have been brought to us by our amiable leader, Chief James Onanefe Ibori. It came to play when the Oghara youth association was formed and a neworientation was given to all youths on a better way of accommodating andreceiving strangers, this went a long way in boosting tourism in the community.

How is the present economicactivity in Oghara compared to the past?

Economicactivities in Oghara have been boosted compared to before.  Delta State Polytechnic, Oghara, WesternDelta University, farm tanks for oil storage and loading terminal, cyberneticsand rain oil as well as oil loading terminal, are some of the structures thathave necessitated the growth of economic activities in the councilheadquarters. More businesses are striving and so many people are becominginterested in coming to Oghara for business because there is peacefulco-existence in the area.

Do you enjoy financialsupport from the local government council in running the community?

There is nofinancial support, but I think somebody is behind the blockade and I amtherefore calling on the designated chairman to make sure there is provisionfor community development fund from the council.

Do you support thecreation of Community Development Committee in Ethiope West?

Yes,I support the creation of Community Development Committees in Ethiope West, butit is so unfortunate that for the past 20years, no past as well as presentlocal and state governments have recognize and fund our youth body despite theabsolute peace we brought in line with the present state government 3 pointagenda.
