Delta State Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties and protuberant indigene of Ugborodo Community in Warri South –West Local Government Area, Hon. Omamofe Joseph Pirah, says leaders of Ugborodo such as Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, Mr. Isaac Botosan, Pa. Pulley Esimajemite and himself, “that have held the community ransom since 1995”, as well as the likes of Chief Ayirimi Emami, should, “be ashamed of ourselves”, that the Ijaws are, “helping us fight for EPZ in Ogidigben", whereas Ugborodo ought to be developed like Bonny in Rivers State.
Hon. Pirah, who made the declaration in reaction to the controversially constituted new Ugborodo Community Interim Caretaker Committee, stated that the Committee would not stand, because of the manner it was constituted.
He said: “This is not the panacea to peace in Ugborodo, because those who sat down to preside in Ugborodo, particularly Prince Perry Atete, Mr. Isaac Botosan, Chief Thomas Ereyitomi and Chief Ayirimi Emami and said they have dissolved the Austin Oborogbeyi led Trust, are the same people who sat down again in Warri, to constitute the so-called Ugborodo Community Interim Caretaker Committee”.
The pioneer Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, added: “To constitute a committee that would administer affairs of Ugborodo Community, will require writing the various communities that make up Ugborodo to make their representations, not for a few persons to sit down and draw a list that suit them without the lay down procedure. Austin Oborogbeyi will definitely go to court and Honourable David Tonwe, will not accept the 32-member Ugborodo Community Interim Caretaker Committee as constituted. For instance, Prince Perry Atete, who presided over the dissolution of the Trust at Ugborodo, made himself who is from Ode-Ugborodo Chairman and his vice is also from Ode-Ugborodo, with two of Atete’s brothers also appointed into the committee. While they gave the position of Secretary to someone from Ajudaibo and nominated someone from Ogidigben down the ladder in the concocted 32-member Committee without following the necessary broad-based written communication/engagements with leaders of the different communities that make up Ugborodo. This will not guarantee total reconciliation or peace in Ugborodo”.
