A Delta State Hospital Management Board Pharmacist attached to Bomadi General Hospital, Mr. Emmanuel Okena has been roasted to death, while seven other persons are in critical condition following a fatal road accident that occurred along the Bomadi-Ohoro road, Fresh Anglecan exclusively report.

The 45-year old late Okena who is an indigene of Kokori town in Ethiope East local government area of Delta State was reported to be travelling back from Abraka to resume work at his station in Bomadi on Monday April 22 at about 4 pm when his Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number AA 418 EKY exploded after a head-on collision with a commercial vehicle coming in the opposite direction.

One of the rescuers told Fresh Angle that the Highlander Jeep was overwhelmed in the bellow of flames and it was beyond anyone’s intervention for rescue attempt, as the pharmacist was watched helplessly burnt beyond recognition.

Authorities of the Bomadi General Hospital were later alerted and they moved the charred remains of their colleague to the hospital morgue.

An eyewitness explained that, the accident occurred when the pharmacist who was travelling alone initiated to overtake a vehicle at a bend when it was still raining cats and dogs without having a clear view ahead to see an oncoming traffic.

The eyewitness account further stated that the driver of the Jeep (late Okena) could not maneuver when he came head on with the commercial vehicle at his opposite direction and had a direct impact collision affecting the fuel tank area, leaving the Jeep to immediately go up in flames.

Fresh Angle gathered that the commercial vehicle which collided with the pharmacist jeep took off from the Tuomo Motor Park and was fully loaded with passengers, who are indigenes of Tuomo heading to Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Our Correspondent reports that all seven passengers in the commercial Sienna Space Bus were trapped and badly wounded as they were rescued and taken to Our Savior Clinic, Bomadi for swift medical attention.

As at the time of filing this report, the survivors were being treated of various degrees of fractures and severe injuries.

The Medical Director of Bomadi General Hospital, Dr. Josiah Etupkere described the death of his 45 -year old colleague and father of 3 as tragic. "The management and staff of the hospital received the news of his death as a rude shock".

Two of the surviving victims, Mr. Awusa Tamarapreye and a former PDP Women Leader, Mrs. Amawiniere Alese from Tuomo community narrated their experiences on how they narrowly escaped death, saying “the last thing we heard was loud bang. It was beyond the imagination of man for us to come out alive in that badly smashed vehicle. Some of us gained consciousness in the hospital. We can’t thank God enough for saving our lives”.
