The Catholic Bishop of Bomadi Vicariate, His Lordship, Dr. Hyacinth Egbebo says Nigeria’s biggest problem is corruption.

The Cleric made the assertion at the Our Lady of the Waters Catholic Church, Bomadi during a mass service to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from death.

According to him, corruption is a huge stone to be rolled away from the country, stressing that government officials should be ready to serve the people.

Relating the significance of love and service in the lives of Christians as they celebrate Easter, Bishop Egbebo reminded them of the service Jesus rendered to his disciples when He washed their feet as well as the stone which was rolled away from the tomb for Jesus by the angels.

He said most Christians are not serving God because they have no love and cannot be at service to their fellow humans, even as he admonished Christians to show love and be at service to roll away the stones in the lives of their brothers.

Taking his text from the Books of Acts 10: 34, 37-43 and Colossians 3: 1-4 respectively, the Cleric advised Christians to focus and pursue spiritual things, saying that those who rise with Christ think heavenly things.

According to the Bishop, “we need to roll out the stone in the life of others away. A teacher whose students did not pass in an exam is a reflection of your teaching method. It means the teacher has not served as Jesus did. This has made parents to seek miracle centres for their children to pass exams”.

He frowned at some Catholics who allow their children to such miracle centres, stressing that such action compromises the standard of education. “If we sincerely served in our education sector, if our medical Doctors served with sincere heart, there would not be quackery and some Nigerians would not be seeking medical treatment abroad”, Egbebo averred.

While harping on the need to be truthful, the Bishop added that “if we are not truthful with little things, we may not be truthful with bigger responsibilities.

He commended the Nigerian security forces for their gallantry in the face of the current security challenges facing the country and called on them to be at service to the people as well as tasked them to surmount the Boko Haram insurgency.
