Kogi Assembly threatens legal action against Senator Abaribe over alleged unguided comment against Bello
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe

The Kogi State House of Assembly yesterday, Tuesday March 2, threatened to take legal action against Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of Abia State, if he fails to apologize to Governor Yahaya Bello, over his purported comment on a recent viral video.

The Assembly equally said Governor Bello, represents Kogi State, as well as youths in the country, adding that any attempt to smear his reputation from any quarter will be resisted.

The move to take a legal action against the Abia Senator, was contained in the resolution of the House following a motion of urgent public importance moved by the House Majority Leader, Hon. Bello Abdullahi Balogun (Ajaokuta State Constituency).

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that Hon. Balogun, in the motion, described the alleged attack on the Governor by Senator Abaribe, “as an attack on the Nigerian Youths, particularly those in Kogi State”, warning that the Senator must tread with caution.

Balogun, in the motion reminded Senator Abaribe, that the emergence of Governor Bello in 2016 was divine, saying: "His reelection was as a result of his proven capacity in the area of security and infrastructure Development".

Seconding the Motion, the member representing Igalamela Odolu, Cosmos Atabor, maintained that all claims by the Abia Senator are based on lies, as the achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello, since assumption of office are unmatchable.

Other members, Chief Muktar Bajeh of Okehi, Anthony Ujah Alewo of Olamaboro and Olusola Kilani of Ijumu constituency in their Contributions lauded the Majority Leader for moving the motion and described the Governor as a pride to the young generation, stressing that Senator Smart Adeyemi acted well in defense of the state.

The Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole in his ruling, said legal action may be taken should the Senator refuse to apologise to the Government and people of Kogi State for his unguided comments.

Prince Kolawole, noted that Governor Yahaya Bello, is an”Achiever who should be encouraged”, stressing that it is demeaning of a personality of the status of a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to be uttering such unguided utterances on the floor of the Senate.

Kolawole, admonished electorates in Abia South to always look for people of proven integrity and track records with good character to vote into positions of authority, saying "electorates should not vote someone who was impeached on two occasions as the Deputy Governor of Abia State".

Recall that Senator Abaribe and the lawmaker representing Kogi West Local Government Area, Senator Smart Adeyemi, were at logger head at each other on the floor of the House, when they later allegedly accused the former of  making an unguided statement against Governor Yahaya Bello.
