Itsekiri students’ body begins back to school campaign

As part of moves to reawaken the educational consciousness of young Itsekiri sons and daughters, the National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS have concluded arrangement to commence a 10-day back to school campaign in selected 54 primary and secondary schools in Delta State.

The 10-day campaign billed to commence Monday July 7, 2014 with Obodo Primary School, Obodo in Warri South local government with the theme “save education, save the future of Iwere Nation” is to compliment the Delta State government efforts at developing education across the state, particularly in Itsekiri communities.

According to a statement signed by NAIS National President, Comrade Leleji Augustine and the association’s Secretary General, Comrade Onogho Gbubemi, educational aids such as Itsekiri text books, sandals, uniforms, writing materials, bags, notebooks, mathematical sets, English Project, New General Mathematics text books, Agric and Economics text books as well as text books covering Social Studies and Integrated Science valued at sixteen million, four hundred and seventy thousand naira (N 16,470,000) will be distributed to Itsekiri students and pupils of the benefitting schools during the campaign.

The statement disclosed that with the help of Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Otumara who is financing 28 tertiary education scholarships, the member representing Warri Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Daniel Reyeniju and APC House of Assembly hopeful in the forthcoming 2015 election, the association has been able to secure 30 scholarships for Itsekiri indigent students studying in various institution of higher learning in the country as a strategy to encourage Itsekiri indigenes to embrace education.

NAIS also commended members of Itsekiri political class and other leaders who are partnering the body in its save education, save the future of Iwere nation campaign.
